Antibacterial agent for topical use in ophthalmology, a derivative of sulfonamide. It has a wide spectrum of antimicrobial action. It has a bacteriostatic effect. Sulfacetamide is active against gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (including pathogenic cocci, Escherichia coli), Chlamydia spp., Actinomyces spp.

Sometimes an overdose of the drug is caused by too frequent instillation of sodium Sulfacyl, which manifests itself in the form of increased symptoms of eye irritation (pain and burning in the eye, foreign body sensation, lacrimation, itching). If these symptoms occur, you should reduce the frequency of application of drops, using a solution of a lower concentration.
Patients with hypersensitivity to thiazide diuretics, furosemide, sulfonylurea, or carbonic anhydrase inhibitors may be hypersensitive to sulfacetamide.
