Ready-to-use oral and throat rinsing solution Stomatidine® is not a banal hygiene product, but a proven drug. It is used for the treatment of gingivitis, periodontitis, aphthous and candida stomatitis. Fights bleeding, inflammation and soreness of the gums in children and adults. Helps with sores on the lips, tongue and inner surfaces of the cheeks. It has an antibacterial and antifungal effect. Reduces pain in the oral cavity. Helps eliminate bad breath. Valid until 14 hours. It is used for adults and children over 5 years of age.

Pharmacological action

Stomatidine is an antiseptic drug for topical use in otorhinolaryngology and dentistry.

The antimicrobial effect of hexetidine is associated with the suppression of oxidative reactions of microbial cell metabolism (thiamine antagonist). The drug has an antibacterial effect against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus spp. and an antifungal effect (including against fungi of the genus Candida). At a concentration of 100 mg/ml, growth inhibition of most bacterial strains is achieved. No development of stability was observed.

Hexetidine has a weak analgesic effect on the mucous membrane.

Pharmacokinetics

Hexetidine adheres well to the mucous membrane and is practically not absorbed. After a single application, hexetidine is detected on the oral mucosa for 65 hours. In dental plaques, active concentrations persist for 10-14 hours after application.

Indications

Inflammatory and infectious diseases of the oral cavity and pharynx:

• sore throat (including tonsillitis with the defeat of the side bolsters, angina Plaut-Vincent);
• pharyngitis, gingivitis and bleeding gums, periodontopathy;
• stomatitis, glossitis;
• aphthous ulcers to prevent superinfection;
• infection of the alveoli after tooth extraction;
• fungal infections of the mouth and throat, especially oral thrush;
• before and after surgery in the oral cavity and pharynx;
• additional oral hygiene with overall disease;
• elimination of an unpleasant smell from the mouth, especially in the case of the crumbling of tumors of the oral cavity and pharynx.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

There are insufficient data on the penetration of hexetidine through the placenta and into breast milk.

It is possible to use the drug during pregnancy if the potential benefit to the mother exceeds the risk to the fetus.

If it is necessary to use the drug during lactation, it is necessary to decide whether to stop breastfeeding.

Contraindications

• hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug Stomatidine;
• hypersensitivity;
• atrophic pharyngitis;
• pregnancy (I trimester);
• children under 5 years of age.

Side effects

Burning, irritation and moderate dryness of the oral mucosa, allergic reactions.

With prolonged use, it is possible to change the taste sensations.

After discontinuation of the drug, the side effects disappear.

Interaction

There was no undesirable interaction of hexetidine with other drugs when applied topically.

It acts synergistically with fluorides and zinc preparations.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Locally.

For rinsing, you should always use an undiluted preparation.

The solution should not be swallowed. It is necessary to spit out the solution after rinsing.

For diseases of the oral cavity in adults and children over the age of 5 years, rinse the oral cavity with 10-15 ml (one tablespoon) of undiluted drug solution for 30 seconds.

For throat diseases in adults and children over the age of 5 years, gargle with the same amount of undiluted solution of the drug for 30 seconds. In the treatment of diseases of the oral cavity, the drug can be applied with a tampon.

Apply 2 times a day (preferably in the morning and evening), after meals.

The duration of use of the drug is set individually. If the symptoms of the disease do not disappear after 5 days of using the drug and/or are accompanied by an elevated temperature, you should consult a doctor.

Overdose

Symptoms: if large amounts of the drug are accidentally swallowed, nausea and vomiting may occur.

Treatment: gastric lavage, use of symptomatic therapy.

Special instructions

Do not use the drug in the category of patients who cannot perform this procedure (rinsing) on their own.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles or work with mechanisms.

It doesn’t affect you.

The drug contains 10% ethanol (96% ethyl alcohol).

The drug should be taken no later than 30 minutes before driving the vehicle.
