Composition

Sotalol Canon tablets contain 80 or 160 mg of the Active ingredient sotalol.

Form of production:

tablets with a dosage of 80 mg are sold in contour packages of 7 pieces,2,4 or 8 packs per pack.

There are also blisters of 10,20,28 and 30 tablets,1,2,3,4 and 6 blisters in a cardboard pack.

Pharmacological action

Antihypertensive, antiarrhythmic, antianginal.

Indications

• ventricular premature beats;
• for the relief of refractory forms of ventricular arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation;
• when abnormalities of the conduction system of the heart muscle (the dissociation of the AV node, the WPW syndrome);
• for electrostimulation of the heart, at constant or paroxizmalnaya tachycardia;
• as the treatment and prevention of supraventricular arrhythmias;
• tachycardia caused by thyrotoxicosis;
• patients with arterial hypertension, hypertensive cardiomyopathy;
• for the prevention and treatment of myocardial infarction;
• when mitral valve prolapse.

Contraindications

The drug is contraindicated if the patient is allergic to any of the components of the drug.

Sotalol is also contraindicated:

• AV-blockade,2 and 3 degrees;
• in heart failure stage 4;
• during cardiogenic shock;
• in severe hypotension, bradycardia less than 50 beats per minute;
• a patient with laryngeal edema or severe allergic rhinitis;
• in case of serious violations of blood circulation in the periphery;
• in patients with asthma in severe disease;
• diabetes with ketoacidosis;
• lactating women;
• the metabolic acidosis.

Side effects

• the violation of sexual and urinary function, reduced sexual activity, swelling in the periphery, alopecia.

If the drug was taken for a long time, and then abruptly canceled, withdrawal syndrome is possible.

Interaction

Caution should be exercised when combining the drug with Reserpine, Guanfacine, Prenylamine, Furosemide, Methyldopa, Indapamide, Procainamide, cisapride and erythromycin.

Calcium channel blockers and antihypertensive agents, tranquilizers, tricyclic antidepressants, sleeping pills, phenothiazines, sleeping pills, barbiturates, opioids, diuretics, vasodilators when combined with the drug can lead to an additional decrease in blood pressure.

Combinations Sotalol and Class I antiarrhythmics increase the risk of developing ventricular arrhythmia.

Oral hypoglycemic agents and Insulin can lead to a decrease in blood sugar levels, increased hypoglycemia.

When combined with class III arrhythmia medications, the QT interval may significantly increase.

There are cases when taking medication and Clonidine led to a paradoxical increase in arterial pressure.

Caution should be exercised when combining Sotalol Canon with Amiodarone. Hypotension, bradycardia, asystole, and ventricular fibrillation are more likely to occur.

MAO inhibitors and norepinephrine may increase blood pressure when co-administered with Sotalol.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Tablets are taken orally, before meals, without dividing, without biting, with water.

Dosage and mode of use is determined by the attending physician.

Instructions for use of Sotalol in tablets

For the treatment of arterial hypertension,80 mg is prescribed per day. If necessary, the doctor may recommend increasing the dose by 80 mg per week. The maximum dosage of 320 mg is allowed to be taken once a day.

With ventricular tachyarrhythmia,160 mg is prescribed per day, divided into 2 doses. If necessary, the dosage can be increased to 320 mg, in 2 doses. The maximum daily dosage in this case can be 480 mg, divided into 2 or 3 doses.

Dosage for patients with kidney or liver diseases is determined by the attending physician.

Overdose

In case of overdose, the following symptoms are observed: :  bradycardia, dizziness, severe depression Blood pressure, arrhythmia, fainting, convulsions, heavy breathing and shortness of breath. Extrasystole, hypoglycemia, and AV block may develop.

As therapy, it is recommended to perform gastric lavage and give the victim enterosorbents. Intravenous use of plasma-substituting solutions of iliatropin, Dopamine, Isoprenaline, and Glucagon is indicated.

Due to the fact that the drug practically does not bind to plasma proteins, hemodialysis is a fairly effective means of combating overdose. If indicated, a pacemaker may be installed. If Blood pressure is greatly reduced, the patient should be placed feet up in the Trendelenburg position.

Special instructions
