Streptocide is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent. Sulfonamide (streptocide) is one of the first representatives of the sulfonamide group of chemotherapeutic agents. It has a bacteriostatic effect.
The mechanism of action is determined by competitive antagonism with PABA and competitive inhibition of the enzyme dihydropteroate synthetase. This leads to a violation of the synthesis of dihydrofolic acid, and then tetrahydrofolic acid, and as a result – to a violation of the synthesis of nucleic acids.
Sulfonamide is active against gram-positive and Gram-negative cocci, Escherichia coli, Shigella spp., Vibrio cholerae, Haemophilus influenzae, Clostridium spp., Bacillus anthracis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Yersinia pestis, as well as against Chlamydia spp., Actinomyces spp., Toxoplasma gondii.
allergic skin reactions; rarely-nephrotoxic reactions (most likely in patients with impaired renal function); In isolated cases-hypothyroidism.
Myelotoxic drugs increase the manifestations of hematotoxicity of the drug.
When applied externally, it is applied to the affected areas of the skin and mucous membranes. Bandages are performed in 1-2 days.
