PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Sulphargin® is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial bactericidal agent belonging to the group of sulfonamides. The drug is active against gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli, Proteus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Klebsiella spp., as well as fungi of the genus Candida and dermatophytes.
The bactericidal properties of Sulphargin ® ointment are due to the activity of silver ions that are released in the wound as a result of dissociation of the silver salt of sulfadiazine; the release of silver ions is gradual (moderate dissociation), ensuring a constant antimicrobial effect. The bactericidal activity of silver ions is supplemented by the bacteriostatic effect of sulfadiazine (also released during the dissociation of the silver salt of sulfadiazine).
Sulphargin® is characterized by moderate osmotic activity and does not have necrolytic properties.
With topical application of the ointment, up to 1% of silver ions and up to 10% of sulfadiazine from the total amount of silver salt of sulfadiazine applied to the wound can be absorbed from the damaged burn or wound surface.
Indications
Sulphargin® is used in adults and children older than 1 year as an antimicrobial agent for the prevention and treatment of purulent wounds and burns with mild exudation, as well as trophic ulcers, bedsores.
Contraindications
Pregnancy, lactation, children under 1 year of age; severe glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency and hypersensitivity to sulfonamide preparations. Sulphargin® should not be used for the treatment of deep purulent wounds and burn surfaces with heavy exudation.
Side effects
With prolonged use of Sulphargin® ointment on extensive burn surfaces, digestive disorders and changes in the blood picture (leukopenia), dyspeptic disorders and skin-allergic reactions characteristic of sulfonamide preparations may occur. In rare cases, short-term local irritating effects (burning, pain) are possible, which usually go away on their own in 5-10 minutes after applying the dressing with ointment.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Externally, after surgical treatment of the wound and removal of necrotic tissues, a thin layer (2-4 mm) of Sulphargin ® ointment is applied to the damaged surface (under a bandage or by an open method). The dressing is changed 1-2 times a day or less. The maximum single dose is 300 g. The duration of treatment is up to 3 weeks.
Special instructions
When applying the ointment on a large surface, the functional state of the kidneys, liver and the content of formed blood elements should be monitored; patients should be prescribed a plentiful alkaline drink.
