Composition
1 tablet contains chloropyramine hydrochloride 25 mg;
excipients:
lactose,
starch,
talc,
sodium amylopectin,
gelatin,
stearic acid.
Pharmacological action
Suprastin is a histamine H1-receptor blocker, an ethylenediamine derivative.
Prevents the development and eases the course of allergic reactions.
It has a moderate sedative and pronounced antipruritic effect.
It has peripheral anticholinergic activity, moderate antispasmodic properties.
Indications
Allergic diseases (including urticaria, serum sickness, hay fever, or hay fever, rhinitis, conjunctivitis);
anaphylactic shock and angioedema; skin diseases (including contact dermatitis, acute and chronic eczema, neurodermatitis, toxicodermia);
prevention and treatment of allergic and pseudoallergic reactions to taking drugs and diagnostic products; itching and insect bites; SARS.
Contraindications
- hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
- acute attack of bronchial asthma;
- children under 3 years of age (for this dosage form);
- lactase deficiency, lactose intolerance, glucose/galactose malabsorption (since the tablet contains 116 mg of lactose monohydrate);
- pregnancy;
- lactation period.
With caution: Â angle-closure glaucoma; urinary retention; prostatic hyperplasia; impaired liver and/or kidney function; cardiovascular diseases; elderly patients.
Side effects
From the central nervous system: Â possible lethargy, drowsiness, weakness, slight tremor, dizziness. In children, there may be some stimulating effect on the central nervous system, manifested by anxiety, increased irritability, insomnia.
From the digestive system: Â dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation may occur.
From the cardiovascular system: Â rarely – low blood pressure (more often in elderly patients), tachycardia, arrhythmia.
Allergic reactions: Â possible skin rash, itching.
Other services: Â rarely-difficulty urinating.
Interaction
When used concomitantly, Suprastin enhances the effects of anesthesia, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, analgesics, MAO inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, atropine and sympatholytics.
With the simultaneous use of Suprastin and caffeine or phenamine, a decrease or elimination of the inhibitory effect of Suprastin on the central nervous system is noted.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Adults are prescribed 25 mg (1 tablet) 3-4 times a day (75-100 mg/day).
Children aged 1-12 months are prescribed 1/4 tab. (6.25 mg) 2-3 times a day (ground to powder form together with baby food); 2-6 years-1/3 tab. (8.3 mg) 2-3 times a day; 7-14 years-1/2 tab. (12.5 mg) 3 times a day.
Tablets should be taken after meals.
Overdose
Symptoms similar to those of atropine intoxication may occur.
Treatment: There are no specific antidotes, so symptomatic treatment is performed.
In the period up to 12 hours after taking the drug Suprastin, gastric lavage is necessary (it should be borne in mind that the anticholinergic effect of the drug prevents gastric emptying). The use of activated carbon is also shown.
It is necessary to monitor the parameters of blood pressure and respiration.
Special instructions
The drug should be used with caution in elderly patients, with insufficient liver function and / or heart disease. With extreme caution, the drug should be administered orally in patients with angle-closure glaucoma, in patients with urinary retention and prostatic hypertrophy.
When taken at night, the drug may increase the symptoms of reflux esophagitis.
Caution should be exercised when prescribing Suprastin concomitantly with sedatives, tranquilizers, analgesics, MAO inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, atropine, and/or sympatholytics.
During treatment, the use of alcoholic beverages should be excluded.
Influence on the ability to drive motor vehicles and manage mechanisms
During the initial, individually determined period of Suprastin use, driving vehicles and engaging in other potentially dangerous activities that require rapid psychomotor reactions are not allowed.
In the course of further treatment, the degree of restrictions is determined depending on the individual tolerance of the drug.
