Pharmacological action

Anti-cataract agent, has a retinoprotective (with subconjunctival use) and metabolic effect. Taurine is a sulfur-containing amino acid produced in the body during cysteine metabolism.

It helps to normalize the functions of cell membranes, activate energy and metabolic processes, preserve the electrolyte composition of the cytoplasm due to the accumulation of potassium and calcium cations, and improve the conditions for conducting a nerve impulse.

Pharmacokinetics

When applied topically, systemic adsorption is low.

Indications

The drug is used as part of complex therapy. Corneal dystrophy; cataracts (senile, diabetic, traumatic, radiation); corneal trauma (as a stimulator of reparative processes). Primary open-angle glaucoma in combination with beta-blockers (to improve the outflow of intraocular fluid).

Use during pregnancy and lactation

There is no sufficient experience with the use of the drug during pregnancy and lactation. It is possible to use Taurine for the treatment of pregnant and lactating mothers as prescribed by the attending physician, if the expected therapeutic effect for the mother exceeds the risk of possible side effects for the fetus and child.

Hypersensitivity, children’s age (up to 18 years).

Interaction

It is possible to combine taurine with timolol. Cases of negative drug interaction of taurine with other drugs used in ophthalmology have not been described. In patients with primary open-angle glaucoma, an increase in the hypotensive effect of beta-blockers (butylaminohydroxypropoxyphenoxymethyl methyloxadiazole or timolol maleate) in the case of combined use with taurine was noted.

How to take, course of use and dosage

For cataracts, the drug is prescribed in the form of instillations of 1-2 drops 2-4 times a day for 3 months. The course is repeated at monthly intervals.

For injuries and dystrophic diseases of the cornea, apply in the same doses for 1 month.

For open-angle glaucoma (in combination with butylaminohydroxypropoxyphenoxymethyl methyloxadiazole or timolol maleate),1-2 drops 2 times a day 15-20 minutes before the appointment of one of the local antihypertensive agents, for 6 weeks, followed by cancellation for 2 weeks.

Special instructions

The preservative contained in the preparation may irritate the eye when wearing contact lenses, so any contact lenses should be removed before instillation and put on no earlier than 15 minutes after it. If it is necessary to simultaneously use other ophthalmic medications (eye drops, etc. ), the interval between the use of taurine and other drugs should be at least 10-15 minutes. After opening, use within 14 days. Ability to influence the speed of reactions when driving vehicles or working with other mechanisms There is no data on the possibility of a negative effect of the drug on the performance of potentially dangerous activities that require special attention and rapid reactions (driving a car and other vehicles, working as a dispatcher, etc. ).
