Thiocetam belongs to the group of cerebroactive agents, shows nootropic anti-ischemic and antioxidant properties.
The pharmacological effect of the drug is due to the mutually potentiating effect of thiotriazoline aipiracetam. Piracetam is a cyclic GABA derivative, a nootropic agent; it acts directly on the brain, improving functions such as learning, memory, attention and consciousness, without providing sedative or psychostimulating effects.
At the neuronal level, piracetam facilitates various types of synaptic transmission, having a predominant effect on the density and activity of postsynaptic receptors.
The hemorheological effects of piracetam are related to its effect on red blood cells, platelets, and the vascular wall. Thiotriazoline reacts with reactive oxygen species and lipid radicals due to the pronounced reducing properties of the thiol group and prevents the occurrence of reactive oxygen species by reactivating anti-radical enzymes: superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase.
Thiocetam improves the integrative and cognitive activity of the brain, promotes the learning process, eliminates amnesia, and increases short-and long-term memory indicators.
There is no experience of using the drug during pregnancy or lactation, so the drug should not be prescribed to this category of women.
There is no experience of using the drug for the treatment of children, so the drug is contraindicated for the treatment of children under 18 years of age.
Nervous system disorders: Â motor disinhibition, irritability, drowsiness, depression, asthenia, headache, dizziness, tinnitus, insomnia, mental agitation, balance disorders, ataxia, exacerbation of epilepsy, anxiety, hallucinations, confusion.
From the gastrointestinal tract: Â nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain (including gastralgia) and bloating, dry mouth.
From the cardiovascular system: Â tachycardia, increased blood pressure, pain in the heart, arrhythmias, in the elderly, exacerbation of coronary insufficiency is possible.
Allergic reactions: Â hypersensitivity, anaphylactic reactions, including dermatitis, pruritus, urticaria and angioedema, fever.
Respiratory system disorders: Â shortness of breath, suffocation attacks.
From the side of metabolism: Â weight gain.
From the side of the hearing organs: Â vertigo.
Thiocetam should not be administered simultaneously with drugs that have an acidic pH value.
Due to the presence of piracetam, the effect of antidepressants and antianginal drugs increases. When administered concomitantly with thyroid hormones, confusion, irritability, and sleep disorders may occur.
Piracetam does not inhibit cytochrome P 450 isoenzymes. Metabolic interaction with other drugs is unlikely
Co-use with alcohol did not affect the level of piracetam concentration in the serum; the concentration of ethanol in the blood serum did not change when taking 1.6 g of piracetam.
The drug is administered intravenously, intramuscularly only if it is impossible to take it inside.
In case of chronic disorders of cerebral circulation and in the recovery period after an ischemic stroke,20-30 ml of the drug is prescribed, previously diluted in 100-150 ml of 0.9% sodium chloride solution, and administered intravenously dropwise 1 time/day.
The course of treatment is 2 weeks, then they switch to the tablet form.
In diabetic encephalopathy,5 ml of IV is prescribed 1 time / day for 10 days with further use of the tablet form.
Symptoms: Â occurrence or increase in the severity of dose-dependent side effects of the drug.
Treatment: Â withdrawal of the drug, induction of vomiting, gastric lavage, symptomatic therapy.
With long-term therapy in elderly patients, regular monitoring of renal function is recommended, if necessary, dose adjustment is carried out depending on creatinine clearance.
Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and control machines and mechanisms
During the treatment period, it is necessary to refrain from driving vehicles and engaging in potentially dangerous activities that require increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions (driving a car, etc. ).
Store in a dark place at a temperature of 15 to 25 ° C. Keep out of reach of children.
