Pharmacological action

Troxerutin is a venotonic, angioprotective agent, bioflavonoid. Reduces the permeability and fragility of capillaries, strengthens the vascular wall, improves microcirculation, and has an anti-edematous effect. Participates in redox processes, blocks hyaluronic acid of cell membranes.

Increases the density of the vascular wall, reduces exudation of the liquid part of the plasma and diapedesis of blood cells. Reduces inflammation in the vascular wall, limiting the adhesion of platelets to its surface.

The use of Troxerutin is possible both at the initial and late stages of treatment of chronic venous insufficiency, it can be used as one of the components of complex treatment.

Pharmacokinetics

After oral use, the drug is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, Cmax in plasma is noted on average 2 hours after use, the therapeutic level in plasma is maintained for 8 hours.

It is metabolized in the liver, partially excreted unchanged in the urine and bile.

Indications

• chronic venous insufficiency;
• trophic disorders in chronic venous insufficiency (dermatitis, trophic ulcers);
• varicose veins;
• superficial thrombophlebitis, periflebitis;
• post-thrombotic syndrome;
• post-traumatic edema, hematomas;
• hemorrhoids;
• diabetic angiopathy, retinopathy.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Contraindicated in the first trimester of pregnancy and breast-feeding, in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy can only be used as prescribed by a doctor.

Contraindications

• peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum, chronic gastritis (in the acute phase);
• hypersensitivity to the drug.

With caution: the drug should be used (long-term use) in case of renal failure.

Side effects

Headache, irritation of the gastrointestinal mucosa, allergic reactions in the form of skin rashes and itching.

Interaction

When used simultaneously, it enhances the effect of ascorbic acid on the structure and permeability of the vascular wall.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Troxerutin capsules should be swallowed whole, with a meal. Usually prescribed 1 capsule inside 3 times a day, as maintenance therapy-1 capsule 2 times a day. The course of treatment is on average 3-4 weeks, the need for longer treatment is determined individually.

Overdose

If you overdose, you may experience the following symptoms: agitation, nausea, headache, and hot flashes.

 In case of overdose, patients should wash their stomach, take activated charcoal, and consult a doctor. If necessary, carry out symptomatic treatment.

Special instructions

There is no experience of using the drug in children under 15 years of age.

In the treatment of superficial thrombophlebitis or deep vein thrombosis, the use of Troxerutin Zentiva does not exclude the need for anti-inflammatory and antithrombotic therapy.

Influence on the ability to drive motor vehicles and manage mechanisms

Taking the drug Troxerutin does not affect motor and mental reactions, does not interfere with driving vehicles and working with mechanisms.
