Composition

of 100 g of drops for oral use contains:

active ingredients: phenobarbital 2 g, ethylbromisovalerianate (ethyl ether of alpha-bromisovaleric acid) 2 g, excipients: peppermint oil-0.14 g; Spanish hop oil (oregano oil) – 0.02 g; ethanol (ethyl alcohol) 95% – 52.8 g; purified water-43.04 g.

Pharmacological action

 Valoserdin is a combined medicinal product, the therapeutic effect of which is determined by the pharmacological properties of the components that make up its composition. It has a sedative and antispasmodic effect.

Phenobarbital has sedative and mild hypnotic effects. Helps to reduce the excitement of the central nervous system and facilitates the onset of natural sleep, increasing the sedative effect of other components.

Ethylbromizovalerianate also has a sedative (similar to the effect of valerian) and antispasmodic effect.

Indications

• vegetative-vascular dystonia
• increased irritability
• insomnia
• arterial hypertension (early stages).

Contraindications

• hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
• severe renal and / or liver dysfunction;
• porphyria;
• pregnancy;
• breast-feeding period;
• age up to 18 years.

Due to the absolute ethyl alcohol content of more than 3 g in the daily dose, Valoserdine is contraindicated in patients with liver diseases, alcoholism, traumatic brain injury and brain diseases.

Side effects

Valoserdine, as a rule, is well tolerated even with prolonged use. In some cases, drowsiness and light dizziness may occur during the daytime hours. With prolonged use of high doses, chronic bromine poisoning may develop, characterized by the following manifestations: depressive mood, apathy, rhinitis, conjunctivitis, hemorrhagic diathesis, impaired coordination of movements.

Interaction

Simultaneous use with neuroleptics and tranquilizers enhances, and with CNS stimulants — weakens the effect of each of the components of the drug.

Alcohol enhances the effects of Valoserdine and may increase its toxicity.

The presence of phenobarbital in the composition can induce liver enzymes, and this makes it undesirable to use it simultaneously with drugs that are metabolized in the liver, since their concentration and, accordingly, their effectiveness will decrease as a result of more accelerated metabolism (indirect anticoagulants, antibiotics, sulfonamides).

Phenobarbital weakens the effect of coumarin derivatives, corticosteroids, griseofulvin, and oral contraceptives.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Inside, before meals, pre-dissolved in a small amount (30-50 ml) of water. Adults are usually prescribed 15-20 drops 3 times a day. With tachycardia, it is possible to increase the single dose to 40-50 drops.

The duration of use of the drug is determined individually by the doctor.

Overdose

Symptoms:  with mild and moderate intoxication, drowsiness, dizziness, and psychomotor disorders are observed. In severe cases-coma, decreased blood pressure, respiratory disorders, tachycardia, vascular collapse, decreased peripheral reflexes.

Treatment:  gastric lavage, use of activated charcoal. You should call a doctor.

Before using the drug, you should consult your doctor.

If it is necessary to prescribe the drug during breastfeeding, the question of stopping breastfeeding should be decided.

With prolonged use of the drug, drug dependence may form; bromine accumulation in the body and the development of poisoning with it is possible.

The preparation contains at least 52 vol.% ethanol.

The maximum single dose of the drug contains 1.03 g of absolute ethyl alcohol; the maximum daily dose is 3.09 g of absolute ethyl alcohol.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and mechanisms. When using the drug, it is not recommended to perform potentially dangerous activities that require increased concentration of attention and speed of psychomotor reactions (including driving vehicles, working with moving mechanisms).
