Placebo tablets are white in color.

Pharmacological action

Vidora is a micro-microdosed combined monophasic hormonal contraceptive containing ethinyl estradiol and drospirenone. The contraceptive effect of the drug is based on the interaction of various factors, the most important of which are the inhibition of ovulation, an increase in the viscosity of cervical secretions, as a result of which it becomes impervious to spermatozoa.

When used correctly, the Pearl index (a measure that reflects the number of pregnancies in 100 women using a contraceptive drug during the year) is less than 1. If you skip pills or use them incorrectly, the Pearl index may increase.

In a therapeutic dose, drospirenone also has antiandrogenic and weak antimineralocorticoid properties. Drospirenone has no estrogenic, glucocorticoid, or anti-glucocorticoid activity and has a pharmacological profile similar to that of natural progesterone. Having antiandrogenic activity, the drug helps to reduce the production of sebaceous gland secretions and improve the clinical course in women with acne (acne vulgaris), which should be taken into account when choosing a contraceptive drug, especially for women with hormone-dependent fluid retention, as well as women with acne and seborrhea.

In combination with ethinyl estradiol, it improves the lipid profile and increases the concentration of high-density lipoproteins.

By regulating menstrual-like bleeding, the drug helps to reduce the severity of pain and the volume of menstrual-like bleeding, thereby reducing one of the risk factors for the development of iron deficiency anemia. In addition, there is evidence that the use of combined oral contraceptives (COCs) reduces the risk of endometrial cancer and ovarian cancer.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Tablets should be taken every day at the same time, if necessary with a small amount of liquid, in accordance with the order indicated on the blister pack.

Tablets are taken continuously. One tablet is taken daily for 28 consecutive days. Taking tablets from each subsequent package begins on the next day after taking the last tablet from the previous package. Withdrawal bleeding usually begins 2-3 days after starting placebo pills (the last line) and may not end until you start taking pills from the next package.

Overdose

Prior to this time, there is no experience of overdosing on drospirenone / ethinyl estradiol.

Based on the general experience of using combined oral contraceptives, there are symptoms that can be observed with an overdose of active tablets: nausea, vomiting, and in young girls – minor bleeding from the vagina.

No antidotes exist and further treatment should be symptomatic.
