Indications
Prevention and treatment of vitamin C hypovitaminosis In cases of increased body demand for vitamin C: during active growth in children, pregnancy, breastfeeding, with increased physical and mental stress, fatigue, stressful conditions, during recovery from long-term and severe diseases.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
The minimum daily requirement for ascorbic acid in the II-III trimesters of pregnancy is about 60 mg. The minimum daily requirement during breastfeeding is 80 mg. A mother’s diet containing an adequate amount of ascorbic acid is sufficient to prevent vitamin C deficiency in an children (it is recommended that the nursing mother does not exceed the maximum monthly requirement for ascorbic acid).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to the components of Ascorbic acid. Do not prescribe large doses to patients with increased blood clotting, thrombophlebitis and a tendency to thrombosis, as well as diabetes mellitus and conditions accompanied by high blood sugar.
Side effects
Allergic reactions to the components of the drug, irritation of the gastrointestinal mucosa (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps), when used in high doses – hyperoxalaturia and the formation of urinary stones from calcium oxalate; inhibition of the function of the insular apparatus of the pancreas (hyperglycemia, glucosuria). Laboratory parameters: thrombocytosis, hyperprothrombinemia, erythropenia, neutrophilic leukocytosis, hypokalemia.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Ascorbic acid is taken orally after a meal.
For preventive purposes, prescribe:
- Adults – 50-100 mg / day;
- children-25 mg/day.
During pregnancy and lactation,300 mg/day. For 10-15 days, then 100 mg/day.
For therapeutic purposes, prescribe:
- Adults – 50-100 mg 3-5 times a day;
- children – 50-100 mg 2-3 times a day.
The duration of treatment depends on the nature and course of the disease and is recommended by the doctor.
