Voltaren is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It has a pronounced analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effect.
The main mechanism of action of diclofenac, established in the experimental conditions, is considered to be inhibition of prostaglandin biosynthesis. Prostaglandins play an important role in the genesis of inflammation, pain, and fever. In vitro, diclofenac sodium in concentrations equivalent to those achieved in the treatment of patients does not inhibit the biosynthesis of cartilage proteoglycans.
In rheumatic diseases, the anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties of Voltaren provide a clinical effect characterized by a significant reduction in the severity of such manifestations of diseases as pain at rest and during movement, morning stiffness and joint swelling, as well as an improvement in functional condition.
With post-traumatic and postoperative inflammatory phenomena, Voltaren quickly relieves pain (occurring both at rest and during movement), reduces inflammatory edema and swelling of the postoperative wound.
When using Voltaren in tablets and suppositories, a pronounced analgesic effect of the drug was noted in moderate and severe pain of non-rheumatic origin.
Voltaren has also been shown to reduce pain and reduce blood loss in primary dysmenorrhea.
Voltaren should not be used during pregnancy, breast-feeding, children under 6 years of age and with a body weight of less than 7 kg.
Voltaren may increase the concentration of lithium and digoxin in plasma when used concomitantly with these drugs.
Voltaren, like other NSAIDs, may reduce the effect of diuretics. Concomitant use of Voltaren with potassium-sparing diuretics may lead to an increase in blood potassium levels (in the case of such a combination of drugs, this indicator should be monitored frequently).
Concomitant use of Voltaren with other NSAIDs may increase the risk of side effects.
Although clinical studies have not established the effect of Voltaren on the action of anticoagulants, there are isolated reports of an increased risk of bleeding in cases of their combined use. Careful monitoring of patients receiving these medications at the same time is recommended.
Voltaren can be administered together with oral hypoglycemic drugs and the effectiveness of the latter does not change. However, there are separate reports of the development of both hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia in such cases, which made it necessary to change the dose of hypoglycemic drugs against the background of Voltaren use.
Caution should be exercised when using NSAIDs less than 24 hours before the start of use or after the end of methotrexate therapy, as its level in the blood (and, consequently, toxicity) may increase.
The effect of NSAIDs on the activity of prostaglandins in the kidneys may increase the nephrotoxicity of cyclosporine.
There have been isolated reports of seizures in patients taking concomitant NSAIDs and quinolone antibacterial drugs.
Do not mix the Voltaren solution contained in ampoules with solutions of other drugs for injection.
Adult Pills Voltaren is prescribed orally at 25-50 mg 2-3 times a day.
The maximum daily dose of Voltaren is 150 mg.
Children with a body weight of 25 kg or more are prescribed the drug at a dose of 0.5-2 mg / kg of body weight/day (in 2-3 doses, depending on the severity of the disease).
For the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, the daily dose can be increased to a maximum of 3 mg / kg (in several doses).
Symptoms: decreased blood pressure, renal failure, convulsions, gastrointestinal disorders and respiratory depression.
Treatment: supportive and symptomatic. It is unlikely that forced diuresis, hemodialysis or hemoperfusion will be useful for the elimination of NSAIDs, since the active substances of these drugs are largely bound to plasma proteins and undergo intensive metabolism.
Concomitant use of Voltaren with other painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs may increase the risk of side effects.
Simultaneous use of alcohol is not recommended.
