Composition

Active ingredient:

xylometazoline hydrochloride-1.0 mg;

Auxiliary substances:  

benzalkonium chloride 0.15 mg,

disodium edetate dihydrate – 0.5 mg,

potassium dihydrogen to 3.63 mg,

sodium hydrogen phosphate, dodecahydrate – 7,13 mg,

sodium chloride – 7,0 mg,

eucalyptus leaf oil – 0.5 mg,

sorbitol – 8.0 mg,

glycerol – 4.0 mg,

macrogol glycerylmonostearate – 3,4 mg,

purified water – up to 1 ml.

Pharmacological action

Xylometazoline-an alpha-adrenostimulant, narrows the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, eliminating edema and hyperemia of the mucous membrane.

Facilitates nasal breathing in rhinitis.

The action begins in a few minutes and continues for several hours.

Indications

• Acute respiratory diseases with rhinitis (runny nose);
• acute allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, pollinosis;
• otitis media (as part of combination therapy to reduce swelling of the nasopharyngeal mucosa);
• preparation of the patient for diagnostic manipulations (rhinoscopy).

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to the components of the drug,
• arterial hypertension,
• tachycardia,
• severe atherosclerosis,
• glaucoma,
• atrophic rhinitis,
• thyrotoxicosis,
• surgical interventions on the meninges (in the anamnesis),
• children under 6 years of age.
• Do not use in therapy with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) and tricyclic antidepressants.

With caution: coronary heart disease (angina pectoris III-IV functional class), prostatic hyperplasia, diabetes mellitus, pregnancy, lactation.

Side effects

With frequent and/or prolonged use – irritation and / or dryness of the nasopharyngeal mucosa, burning, paresthesia, sneezing, hypersecretion; swelling of the nasal mucosa, palpitation, tachycardia, arrhythmia, increased blood pressure, vomiting, headache, insomnia, visual impairment; depression (with prolonged use of high doses).

Interaction

Incompatible with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.

How to take, course of use and dosage

Adults and children over 6 years of age: 1 injection of 0.1% xylometazoline solution in each nasal passage 2-3 times a day.

Do not use the drug more than 3 times a day.

Do not use the drug without a break for more than 3-5 days.

Do not apply for more than 7 days.

Usually, xylometazoline does not affect the performance and does not make it difficult for drivers of vehicles or driving moving mechanisms.
