Composition
1 ml of sodezhit spray:
Active ingredient:
xylometazoline hydrochloride 1 mg;
Auxiliary substances:
sodium hydrophosphate dihydrate,
sodium dihydrophosphate dihydrate,
disodium edetate,
sodium chloride,
purified water.
Pharmacological action
Vasoconstrictor drug for topical use in ENT practice. Xylometazoline has an alpha-adrenomimetic effect. Causes narrowing of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, thus eliminating edema and hyperemia of the nasopharyngeal mucosa.
Facilitates nasal breathing in rhinitis.
In therapeutic concentrations, it does not irritate the mucous membrane, does not cause hyperemia. The action occurs a few minutes after application and lasts for 10-12 hours.
Indications
Acute respiratory diseases with rhinitis (runny nose), acute allergic rhinitis, pollinosis, sinusitis, eustachiitis, otitis media (to reduce swelling of the nasopharyngeal mucosa).
Preparation of the patient for diagnostic manipulations in the nasal passages.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
During pregnancy and lactation, the drug should be used only after careful assessment of the risk-benefit ratio for the mother and fetus, and it is not allowed to exceed the recommended doses.
Aerosol is not prescribed for children under 3 years of age. Nose drops 0.1% for children under 2 years of age are prescribed only by a doctor.
Contraindications
Individual hypersensitivity to the components of the drug, hypertension, tachycardia, severe atherosclerosis, glaucoma, atrophic rhinitis, thyrotoxicosis, surgical interventions on the meninges in the anamnesis, age up to 18 years.
Side effects
Local reactions:  with frequent and/or prolonged use – irritation and/or dryness of the nasopharyngeal mucosa, burning, tingling, sneezing, hypersecretion; rarely – swelling of the nasal mucosa.
Systemic reactions:  rarely-palpitation, tachycardia, arrhythmias, increased blood pressure, headache, vomiting, insomnia, visual impairment; with prolonged use in high doses – depression.
Interaction
Incompatible with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Xymelin is used intranasally, adults and children over 10 years of age-1 dose of the spray.
Xymelin is used for no more than 7 days.
Overdose
Symptoms: Â increased side effects.
Treatment: Â conducting symptomatic therapy.
Special instructions
It should not be used for a long time, for example, in chronic rhinitis.
