PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Sertaconazole is an antifungal agent derived from imidazole and benzothiophene. It has a fungistatic and fungicidal effect in therapeutic doses. Active against fungi of the genus Candida. The mechanism of action of sertaconazole is to inhibit the synthesis of ergosterol and increase the permeability of the cell membrane, which leads to lysis of the fungal cell. It also has antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria (staphylococci and streptococci).
PHARMACOKINETICS
There is no systemic absorption after intravaginal use. Unchanged sertaconazole is not detected in either blood plasma or urine.
Local treatment of infections of the vaginal mucosa caused by fungi of the genus Candida (candida vulvovaginitis).
There are no sufficient data on the use of sertaconazole during pregnancy and lactation.
However, taking into account the method of use of the drug (single use), as well as the lack of systemic absorption of the drug after intravaginal use, the use of sertaconazole during pregnancy and lactation is possible if the potential benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risk to the fetus or child.
Hypersensitivity to imidazole derivatives, benzothiophene and other components of the drug.
Rarely: burning sensation, itching in the vagina, which go away on their own during treatment and do not require discontinuation of the drug.
These side effects are classic for topical medications and reflect the effectiveness of the drug.
Possible allergic reactions.
Concomitant use of the drug with local contraceptives may lead to a weakening of the spermicidal effect of the latter.
