Combined drug, contains acyclovir and hydrocortisone. Acyclovir is active against Herpes simplex types 1 and 2, Varicella zoster virus, Epstein-Barr virus and cytomegaloviruses. Thymidine kinase of virus-infected cells actively converts acyclovir to mono -, di-and triphosphate through a series of sequential reactions. The latter interacts with viral DNA polymerase and is embedded in the DNA that is synthesized for new viruses. Thus, “defective” viral DNA is formed, which leads to suppression of replication of new generations of viruses. Hydrocortisone is a weakly active glucocorticosteroid. When applied externally and topically, the therapeutic activity of hydrocortisone is due to anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, anti-allergic and anti-exudative (due to the vasoconstrictor effect) action. As a result of the combination of the antiviral effect exerted by acyclovir and the anti-inflammatory effect exerted by hydrocortisone, Zovirax ® Duo-Active prevents the formation of vesicular rash elements on the affected skin areas (when used in the prodromal period), and also reduces the healing time of already formed rash elements. The mechanism of action is due to the blocking of viral replication and inhibition of the development of an inflammatory reaction in the affected area of the skin, which leads to a decrease in the severity of infection symptoms.
Absorption and distributionw Ith topical application of the drug, systemic absorption of acyclovir is minimal; hydrocortisone can penetrate the stratum corneum of the epidermis, reaching its lower layers, and is absorbed in small amounts. When used at the recommended doses, it does not cause suppression of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system.
Recurrent lip skin infection caused by the Herpes simplex virus in adults and children over 12 years of age.
The use of Zovirax® Duo-Active during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended, except when prescribed by a doctor (if the intended benefit to the mother exceeds the potential risk to the fetus and child).
Adverse reactions were local in nature and occurred at the sites of application of the drug. Side effects are classified by organ system and frequency. The frequency of side effects is defined as follows: very common (≥ 1/10), common (≥ 1/100 and < 1/10), infrequent (≥ 1/1000 and < 1/100), rare (≥ 1/10 000 and < 1/1000) and very rare (≥ 1/100 000 andAllergic reactions: Very rarely-hypersensitivity reactions of immediate type, including angioedema. Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Often – dryness, peeling of the skin; Infrequently-short-term burning, tingling in the areas of application of the drug; itching; Rarely-redness of the skin; changes in skin pigmentation; allergic dermatitis, more often associated with a reaction to hydrocortisone or excipients. Local reactions: Rarely – symptoms of an inflammatory reaction (pain, swelling, redness, local increase in tissue temperature). If you experience any of the listed side effects, stop taking the drug and immediately consult a doctor.
When applied externally, interactions with other drugs were not detected.
For external use only. Adults and children over 12 years of age should apply the product 5 times a day (approximately every 4 hours), except at night. The drug is applied in a thin layer on the affected and adjacent skin areas. It is important to start treatment of a recurrent infection as early as possible, preferably in the prodromal period, that is, at the first appearance of non-specific signs of infection (burning, tingling, tightness of the skin). The duration of treatment is not less than 5 days. Do not use the drug for more than 5 days. If symptoms persist after 5 days of using the drug, you should consult a doctor. To prevent deterioration of the condition and prevent transmission of infection, it is necessary to wash your hands before and after applying the drug, do not rub or touch the affected areas of the skin with a towel.
No adverse effects were observed if the entire contents of the package were accidentally swallowed or used once. If an overdose is suspected, seek medical attention.
Cream for external use is uniform, white or white with a yellowish tinge of color.
To achieve the maximum therapeutic effect and prevent the formation of vesicles (bubbles) on the skin, it is necessary to start using the drug when the first signs of the disease appear (burning, itching, tingling, tightness). If there are severe manifestations of herpetic infection of the lip skin, you should consult a doctor. The cream can only be used for herpes of the lip skin. It is not recommended to apply the drug on the mucous membranes of the mouth and eyes, as well as apply a cream for the treatment of genital herpes. Avoid contact with eyes. Do not apply occlusive dressings, as well as patches or special antiherpetic masking patches to the place of application of the cream. Patients with immunodeficiency conditions should follow the doctor’s recommendations when treating any infectious diseases. Since these patients are at high risk of developing acyclovir resistance, they should not use this medication. The drug contains cetyl alcohol, which can cause local skin reactions such as contact dermatitis, and propylene glycol, which can cause skin irritation. Influence on the ability to drive vehicles, mechanisms Zovirax® Duo-Active does not affect the performance of potentially dangerous activities that require special attention and quick reactions (driving a car and other vehicles, working with moving mechanisms, working as a dispatcher and operator, etc. ).
