The pharmacological effect
of Ziprex is antipsychotic.
Being a ligand of serotonin (2A/2C,3,6), dopamine (D1–D5), m-choline (m1 – m5), histamineH1-and alpha– 1-adrenergic receptors, it selectively affects the limbic system.
Pharmacokinetics
Well absorbed, cmax in plasma-after 5-8 hours. It is metabolized in the liver (via conjugation and oxidative pathways) to inactive metabolites. The main metabolite,10-N-glucuronide, does not pass through the BBB. The average T1/2 varies (depending on age and gender) in the range of 21-54 hours.
Indications
Acute form of schizophrenia, etc. psychoses, accompanied by pronounced positive (delusions, hallucinations, thinking disorders, hostility, suspicion) and/or negative (blunted affect, emotional and social isolation, poor speech activity) symptoms.
Secondary affective symptoms on the background of schizophrenia and concomitant disorders.
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Ziprexa is contraindicated in pregnancy, lactation and children under 18 years of age.

Hypersensitivity
Side effects
are frequent-drowsiness, weight gain;
rare-dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, peripheral edema, orthostatic hypotension, akathisia, dystonia, eosinophilia (asymptomatic), a small and temporary increase in prolactin levels (gynecomastia, lactorrhea), liver transaminase activity.
Interaction
Reduces the effects of levodopa and dopamine agonists.
Activated charcoal reduces bioavailability by 50-60% when taken orally.
Smoking and carbamazepine boost your metabolism.
There was no obvious interaction with antacids, cimetidine, imipramine, warfarin, diazepam, lithium, theophylline, and biperiden.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Inside, regardless of food intake.

Overdose
Symptoms: Â nausea, confused speech, drowsiness.
Mydriasis, respiratory depression, hypotension, and extrapyramidal disorders were observed in animal experiments.
