Pharmacological action

Streptocide-has a bacteriostatic effect. The mechanism of action is determined by competitive antagonism with PABA and competitive inhibition of the enzyme dihydropteroate synthetase.

This leads to a violation of the synthesis of dihydrofolic acid, and then tetrahydrofolic acid, and as a result – to a violation of the synthesis of nucleic acids.

Sulfonamide is active against gram-positive and Gram-negative cocci, Escherichia coli, Shigella spp., Vibrio cholerae, Haemophilus influenzae, Clostridium spp., Bacillus anthracis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Yersinia pestis, as well as against Chlamydia spp., Actinomyces spp., Toxoplasma gondii.

Indications

• Infected wounds of various etiologies,
• burns of I and II degrees,
• superficial pyoderma,
• boils,
• carbuncles,
• vulgar acne,
• impetigo and other purulent-inflammatory skin diseases.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

It is contraindicated for use in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy and lactation

Contraindications

• congenital glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency,
• azotemia,
• hypersensitivity,
• anemia,
• porphyria,
• pregnancy,
• lactation.

Side effects

From the digestive system: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

From the hematopoietic system: rarely – eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, hypoprothrombinemia, agranulocytosis.

From the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system: in isolated cases – visual impairment, headache, dizziness, peripheral neuropathy, ataxia.

Other: allergic skin reactions; rarely-nephrotoxic reactions (most likely in patients with impaired renal function); In isolated cases-hypothyroidism.

Interaction

Myelotoxic drugs increase the manifestations of hematotoxicity of the drug.

How to take, course of use and dosage

When applied externally, it is applied to the affected areas of the skin and mucous membranes. Bandages are performed in 1-2 days.

Overdose

Symptoms: nausea, vomiting, intestinal colic, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, depression, fainting, confusion, visual disturbances, fever, hematuria, crystalluria; with prolonged overdose – thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, megaloblastic anemia, jaundice.

Treatment: heavy drinking; in case of accidental ingestion of ointment and powder inside-gastric lavage.
