Active ingredient:
tetracycline hydrochloride – 3,226 g.
Auxiliary substances:
lanolin (anhydrous lanolin),
ceresin,
sodium disulfite (sodium pyrosulfite),
vaseline.
Pharmacological action
Pharmaceutical group:
antibiotic-tetracycline.
Pharmaceutical action: Â
Bacteriostatic antibiotic from the tetracycline group. Disrupts the formation of a complex between the transport RNA and the ribosome, which leads to suppression of protein synthesis.
Active against gram-positive microorganisms: Staphylococcus spp. (including Staphylococcus aureus, including penicillinase-producing strains), Streptococcus spp. (including Streptococcus pneumoniae), Listeria spp., Bacillus anthracis, Clostridium spp., Actinomyces israelii;
gram-negative microorganisms: Haemophilus influenzae, Haemophilus ducreyi, Bordetella pertussis, most of enterobacteria (Escherichia coli, Enterobacter spp., including Enterobacter aerogenes, Klebsiella spp., Salmonella spp. Shigella spp. Yersinia pestis, Bartonella bacilliformis, Vibrio cholerae, Vibrio fetus, Rickettsia spp., Borrelia burgdorferi, Brucella spp. (in combination with streptomycin); with contraindications to the appointment of penicillins-Clostridium spp., Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Actinomyces spp. ; also active against pathogens Chlamydia trachomatis, Treponema spp.
The following microorganisms are resistant to tetracycline: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus spp., Serratia spp., most strains of Bacteroides spp. and fungi, viruses, beta-hemolytic streptococci of Group A (including 44% of Streptococcus pyogenes strains and 74% of Streptococcus faecalis strains).
Indications
Acne vulgaris, bacterial skin infections.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to tetracycline.
Children’s age (up to 11 years).
Side effects
Allergic reactions: burning, flushing of the skin, swelling or other signs of irritation.
Interaction
Tetracycline hydrochloride forms hardly soluble complexes with calcium, iron and other metal ions, and therefore you should not take the drug simultaneously with milk and dairy products (because of the calcium content in them);
with antacids containing aluminum, calcium, magnesium salts; and also with iron preparations.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Externally. The ointment is applied to the affected areas of the skin 1-2 times a day (an occlusive dressing may be applied).
Special instructions
It is not recommended to use for deep or stab wounds, severe burns, in ophthalmology (use 1% eye ointment).
It should be borne in mind that the use of antibacterial agents for external use can lead to sensitization of the body, accompanied by the development of hypersensitivity reactions.
If the condition does not improve within 2 weeks, you should consult your doctor.
Adequate and strictly controlled studies in children under 11 years of age have not been conducted; doses for this category of patients have not been determined.
