Composition

1 ml contains: Â xylometazoline hydrochloride 500 mcg
Auxiliary substances:
disodium edetate,
sodium hydrophosphate dihydrate,
sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate,
sodium chloride,
benzalkonium chloride (as a 10% benzalkonium solution),
purified water.
Pharmacological action
Vasoconstrictor drug for topical use in ENT practice. Xylometazoline has an alpha-adrenomimetic effect.
Causes narrowing of the blood vessels of the nasal mucosa, thus eliminating edema and hyperemia of the nasopharyngeal mucosa. Facilitates nasal breathing in rhinitis.
In therapeutic concentrations, it does not irritate the mucous membrane, does not cause hyperemia. The action occurs a few minutes after application and lasts for 10-12 hours.
Indications
-acute respiratory diseases with rhinitis phenomena;
– acute allergic rhinitis;
– pollinosis;
– sinusitis

– eustachiitis— – otitis media (to reduce swelling of the nasopharyngeal mucosa);
— preparation of the patient for diagnostic manipulations in the nasal passages.
Contraindications
-arterial hypertension;
– tachycardia;
– severe atherosclerosis
— – glaucoma;
– atrophic rhinitis—
– hyperthyroidism—
– surgical interventions on the meninges (in the anamnesis);
— hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.
Use with caution in diabetes mellitus.
Side effects
Local reactions:  with frequent and/or prolonged use – irritation and/or dryness of the nasopharyngeal mucosa, burning, tingling, sneezing, hypersecretion; rarely – swelling of the nasal mucosa.
Systemic reactions:  rarely-palpitation, tachycardia, arrhythmias, increased blood pressure, headache, vomiting, insomnia, visual impairment; with prolonged use in high doses – depression.
Interaction
Incompatible with MAO inhibitors and tricyclic antidepressants.
How to take, course of use and dosage
Nasal drops 0.05% are prescribed to children aged 2 to 6 years 1-2 drops in each nostril 1-2 times a day.
Nasal drops 0.1% are prescribed for adults and children over 6 years of age,2-3 drops in each nostril (if necessary, you can repeat instillation).
The drug should be used no more than 3 times / day and for no more than 7 days.
Overdose
Symptoms: Â increased side effects.
Treatment: Â conducting symptomatic therapy.
Special instructions
It should not be used for a long time, for example, in chronic rhinitis.
Influence on the ability to drive motor vehicles and manage mechanisms
Xylometazoline in doses higher than recommended may affect the ability to drive vehicles or equipment.
